Why You Will Love This Taco Macaroni and Cheese
We took our creamy stove-top macaroni and cheese and combined it with taco meat, resulting in the perfect dish! Honestly, I thought “this may be good,” but I was shocked at how wonderful this recipe really is! If you love macaroni and cheese and can’t turn down a taco, add this one to your menu. This is a recipe that will quickly become part of your rotation and it’s also super versatile.
You Can Swap Out
We made this dish with ground turkey but you can definitely use ground beef. You could add green chilis and Rotel tomatoes to the meat if you like. Top this mixture with extra cheese too. We like to make this with homemade macaroni and cheese, but you could use a box version if you want. We make the recipe as written, but you can always add a little more milk and whipping cream if you like the dish a little creamier.

- 1 lb ground turkey or ground beef
- 1 1/3 cups of shells or pasta of your choice (cooked until tender)
- 1 package taco seasoning
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup milk I use 2%
- 2/3 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 ounces cream cheese
- 1 cup taco blend shredded cheese
-
In a skillet, brown ground turkey or ground beef, add taco seasoning and mix well. Set aside.
-
Cook pasta in a saucepan on top of the stove according to package directions until tender. Drain.

Return macaroni to saucepan and add butter, salt, black pepper, milk, heavy whipping cream, cheddar cheese and cream cheese. Stirring constantly with stove on very low heat cook until cheeses are totally melted.
-
Add in taco meat and combine well.
-
Remove from heat and wait about 10 minutes before serving so pasta can soak up wet ingredients. You may need to add a little more milk or whipping cream if you like it more creamy.
-
Can top with extra cheese when serving, green onions or sour cream. All optional.
